From Training to Employment: Investing in the Next Generation of First Responders
Texas Mutual awards $100,000 to ProAction Emergency Services Institute to expand EMT education, scholarships and career opportunities
A strong workforce starts with access to opportunity.
Through a $100,000 grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company, ProAction Emergency Services Institute is expanding opportunities for individuals who want to build a career in emergency medical services while helping address the shortage of trained first responders in our region.
Texas Mutual recently awarded more than $4.5 million in grants to 62 nonprofit organizations across Texas through its 2026 Working Texans Economic Opportunity Grant. The funding is designed to support initiatives that help working Texans obtain and retain stable employment, advance their careers and participate in economic opportunities.
ProAction is proud to be one of those recipients. This investment will directly support our ability to train, employ and develop the next generation of first responders.
Creating Pathways to Meaningful Careers
At ProAction Emergency Services Institute, we believe education should lead to opportunity.
Our EMT program gives students the knowledge, hands-on skills and training they need to enter the emergency medical services workforce. But our role does not stop at graduation. ProAction also hires and provides job opportunities to our graduates, creating a direct pathway from training to employment.
This is especially important as communities across the region continue to face a shortage of qualified first responders. By preparing more individuals for careers in EMS and creating opportunities for them to enter the workforce, we are helping address a critical community need while giving students the opportunity to build meaningful careers.
Removing Barriers to Employment
For some aspiring EMTs, the biggest barrier to entering the workforce is gaining access to the education and training required to begin their careers.
The Texas Mutual grant will help ProAction provide scholarships to future first responders, making EMT education more accessible to individuals who may otherwise struggle to afford training.
The funding will also help ensure our students have access to the proper equipment, training materials and educational resources needed to receive the highest-quality training possible.
By removing financial barriers and strengthening the resources available to students, we can prepare more individuals to successfully enter the EMS workforce.
Investing in a Stronger Regional Workforce
Every graduate who enters the workforce represents more than a new career opportunity. It means another trained professional available to respond to emergencies and another first responder prepared to serve patients and families when they need help most.
Through education, scholarships and employment opportunities, ProAction is helping create a sustainable pathway into emergency medical services while strengthening the workforce our region depends on.
Texas Mutual’s investment allows us to expand that pathway and reach more future first responders.
We are grateful to Texas Mutual for recognizing the connection between education, employment and stronger communities. Their support is helping ProAction create opportunities for people to enter the workforce, build careers and become the first responders our communities need.
When we invest in future first responders, we are investing in both their future and the future of the communities they serve.
