Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the ACLS course take?
The in-person initial ACLS course typically runs 12–14 hours, often delivered over two days. The renewal course is shorter (usually 6–8 hours). HeartCode allows you to complete the online portion at your own pace before a focused skills session of approximately 2–3 hours.
How often do I need to renew my ACLS certification?
AHA ACLS certifications are valid for two years. Most employers require renewal before the expiration date on your card.
Do I need to have current BLS certification before taking ACLS?
Yes. Current AHA BLS Provider certification is a prerequisite for ACLS enrollment. If your BLS has lapsed or you don’t yet have it, we offer BLS courses as well. Contact us to inquire about combining your training.
Can ProAction come to our hospital or department?
Yes. We can arrange on-site ACLS training for groups at your facility. This is a popular option for hospital units that need to certify multiple staff members at once. Call (915) 532-2771 to discuss logistics and scheduling.
What if I need to reschedule?
Contact us as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to find an alternative date.
