EMT Course Description
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course prepares individuals to provide emergency medical care and transportation to critical and emergent patients who access the EMS system. EMTs possess the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients, ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies. They function as integral members of a comprehensive EMS response system, operating under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions using the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance, serving as a vital connection between emergency scenes and the healthcare system. Clinical & Field Experience
As part of the EMT program, students gain valuable real-world experience through clinical and field rotations. Working alongside healthcare professionals in hospital emergency departments and EMS providers in the field, students have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in real patient care settings.
Clinical rotations are typically completed during the latter portion of the program, once students have developed a strong foundation in EMS concepts and skills. Participants must be at least 18 years old to take part in clinical and ambulance rotations.

Do I need any prior medical experience to enroll?
No. The ProAction EMT program is designed for students with no prior medical or EMS background. You’ll start from the foundation and build up. What matters most is commitment, attendance, and a willingness to work hard.
What are the minimum age and education requirements?
You must be at least 18 years old to participate in clinical rotations. You’ll also need a high school diploma, GED, or official transcript to enroll.
What is included in the tuition?
ProAction’s all-inclusive tuition covers course fees, textbooks, hospital and ambulance clinical fees, background check, and your student ID. There are no hidden add-ons.
Is financing available?

What exam do I take to get certified?
Texas uses the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) cognitive and psychomotor exams as its state-approved EMT assessment. You must pass both to be eligible for Texas DSHS EMT certification.
What does the Texas DSHS certification process involve after graduation?
After passing the NREMT, you’ll need to complete IdentoGO fingerprinting and a background check (Service Code 11BSBH, $50 fee), then submit your DSHS certification application and $60 fee through the state’s online portal.
Where do EMTs work in El Paso?
